In the world, there have always been and still are territorial conflicts and disputes. That is, two or more countries claim one and the same territory for
themselves. Ideally, such conflicts are resolved by an "international arbitrator" for one side or the other, with acceptance of the arbitration ruling by the countries involved. The arbitrators
are usually bodies of the United Nations.
But there is by no means always the ideal case. In principle, every territorial conflict also involves the risk of military conflict.
Most of the territorial conflicts have taken place or are taking place below the threshold of media interest and are therefore largely unknown even to an informed
public. But there are also conflicts that are definitely more or less often front-line news in the media.
It should be mentioned that by far not all territorial conflicts find their way onto stamps. There are more than 200 current conflicts recorded here. Even very mutually friendly nations like
Canada and USA sport territorial conflicts. There also many historically already settled territorial conflicts and disputes. Even within a country between
administrative entities territorial conflicts and disputes do exist.
